I have listened to three different types of radio shows; Music show, Adult Contemporary and Student radio, these all have the same basic structure of a radio show. There is presenting on the show, the days top headlines, weather, travel and competitions but this depends on the target audience and genre.
For this genre of radio show i analysed a radio Station called Gold, I listened to it on their internet website. i listened on Wedensday 22nd September at 21:49. The show that i listened to is "Dean Martin's Gold Requests", the type of music that is being played is old 60's hits this ties in with the target audience of the show which is 30+ because the music is easy listening like back round music. On this particular show there is audience interaction because of the show is a 60's request show so listeners ring up and ask to put certain music on from that era. Every show plays songs from all different types of decades so it isnt just from one decade give the listener more range of music from the past. This is commerical radio and has a lot of advertiments such as the link that plays the show has a tenor lady pads advert this relates to the older audience and these adverts are played in the breaks of songs. They broadcast the news every hour with the weather and sport this is informative. The presenters tone of voice was very smooth and has a 60:40 ratio, music being the biggest. The branding for Gold is they have their own jingles that the listener can recognise that its gold radio station their listening to when they tune in. The vocal delivery of the presenter is informative like the presenter is speaking formally.
Student radio
For my student radio i analyised the radio station 'Demon fm', this is a student radio station abd this is broadcasted at De Montfort University's Leicester City Campus. I listened to Demon Fm, Thursday 23rd September at 11:01. This radio station is running as a community radio station. This radio station is commercial because its all independant. The type of music they play is the latest music from any genre, they dont tell the listeners what their playing so its like an assumption that their listeners would already know what is being played. Demon fm is like the other two radio stations that i analised, you can listen to it on radio but only in Leicester, they do have a website where you can listen to it live. They also have a podcast on Itunes where you can download it and it contains the best bits of their shows. I one of the songs they played the sound quality wasnt as good as the other stations, this may be due to the equipment they are using. The ratio of speech to music is 80:20 this is proberly because during the day the students are in lessons or they only have proper shows at night as this when they tune into the station. The target audience for this station is 16+ because of the genres of music being played and how recent its been released.
This is good Nicole. You need to go into much more detail on audience and presenting style. Make sure you cover all the points. You are currently working at a pass but could easily be a merit or even a distinction. Just think about being in depth and explain in full with examples.
