Aberdeen Student Radio

Aberdeen Student Radio
For my first radio show i am analyising Aberdeen student radio, they havent come up with a name for it which is unsual seeing as every other station has come up with their own name and branding. I analysed this radio station on Thursday 7th October at 10:15am. The target audience is 18-22.When i first started listening to it i was instantly hit with Salt And Pepper-Push it. From that i can tell that they choose music that is easy listening, high tempo and from all era's of music not just recent music thats been released. When you click listen live on thier website your met with a box that says chat to the presenter. The radio show is trying to get the listeners involved in the show which in every station works well. While listening i noticed that there is some techniqual problems because every time just push it finishes and the next song starts it cuts and goes back to the last 1 minute of the song. This Happened 5 times which i thought was a major flaw in their radio show. I had to close the window and do another analysis and go back to the station. There are no jingles inbetween the songs which made it sound like you just put your ipod on shuffle. There hasnt been a presenter talk at all. You can listen live on the campus, on the radio as its a commuinity radio and listen on their website. Even when i listened to the radio station at a later time the music is still from all types of decades such as classical. When the two presenters started there bit, the male presenter instantly asked about requests and included the stations email. They have lots of homour and fade out the back round music when thier talking. Even had features such as how posh the female presenter is. I felt that i could laugh along to their games. The Back round music is from 'The A Team', with their target audience they would recongnise it especially when the film came out a few months ago. When i analysised it again later on, the music was working again. This time there was two presenters, both female. On thier website it has three main colours, neon pink, vibrant blue and pinewood. The font is in white and pink which works well with the colours. there is a huge picture which takes up the page in this picture there is a picture of the presenters shot in sepia, i dont like the effect because for a new listner tuning in you dont see their faces and its not clear that its the presenters. The ratio of speech to music is 80% which is surprising because the conventional student radio at this time of day they usualy just play and mix music. I think these presenters tone of voice isnt sutible because of the tome of voice used. They aren't exciting enough and their personalites dont come out enough when presenting but they are conversational. The music switches between the show, before was easy listening, after its today new music this works well for the target audience. When playing a song such as 'Pink' has a new song and it had "shit" in. When the song finished there was an apoligy but she talked that there was any copyright??The roles for the two presenters doesnt come across clear. The language they use is simple, no use of long words and use slang words such as 'Lez'. There is no awkward silences between both of the presenters they certainly flow. The phrase structure is layed out so that the audience can understand. The bredth of vocabulary is simple with no long words. The sentance structure isnt really impressive as it sounds like their just improvising, there is alot of banter netween the presenters but as a listener we dont understand because they havent gone in depth of the subject. There isnt any catch phrases but they do use alot of qoutes of such as 'Slip Of The Tounge' and 'Back in the day'. The pace of converstation is very slow which is a let down because it sounds like they have colds or just couldnt be bothered which cant help with the ratings. The topics they go one about such as University work and the parties that are going on.
