My Analysis Of Our Adult Contemporary Show

For adult contemporary we were split on what we wanted to do, i thought the idea of a drive home show would work well but three against one isnt going anywhere. I felt that doing a christmas show is too early especially in October but no one listened. I trugenly downloaded the christmas song and helped with the bedding music. We felt that Cara and Chris will work well for presenting as their voices are calm and not in a fast pace. They both have good chemestry together on air and for two presenters on a adult contemporary show it wont be dreary and give the show some warmth. The news however was a total shame if your going to do the news in the future at least make it up!! But no they used the recent news for a future show thats two months forward. Anyway. The beding music was beautiful as in it was trinkwil with mellow tones that complemented the tones of Chris and Cara. I found that the jingles was too much after awhile because the christmas theme tune was so prominant through out that the jingles was just an overkill. I liked however the vox pop of the elderly couple ringing in. As i was the elderly lady and zac was the elderly man, it put homour to the show and emphasised the target listeners of the show. Overall the show worked well but i felt that it ridiculas in Content.

My Analysis Of Our Student Show

For our student show we thought that we will have a show where our listeners could interacte and enjoy the type of music we play which will be the latest. We thought that Zachs voice is perfect for this genre as he is young, speaks clearly and has the voice that people in the target audience will listen to. The jingles that we have for the show is different as in its repetitive, sharp and short. It injects excitment that speeds up the show it sounds stupid but this jingle has a sort of dangerous edge to it. We thought of using a segment that uses the voices of the students in our class to read out some qurky sentances about what happened to them. We called it 'what happened to me today', it will be our weekly thing. This will make our listeners laugh and tune in every week to listen. But there could have been a intro to the peice as it just cuts straight through. The first jingle of cara introducing the show works well because it tells the listeners what their listening to, it sounds professional. The bedding music was ok but there was lyrics but Zac faded it out so that it wasnt distracting. There was good mixing in between song 1 and 2 this made it sound professional. I presented the second advert for rapture music store in witney. I spoke clearly no 'erming' or werid awkward pauses. I found that the music worked well with what im saying. And it was cut well.

Prep for our live music show

Our group had a meeting on the 19th of october to discuss what we want in our music show. I already had an idea of what music i wanted to play so i put forward two tracks and everyone agreed that it would go well.. I then discussed that we needed alot of bedding music, Zac responded that we will use todays top music and just dub out the vocals and just use the sound. We all agreed. I Felt that we needed the news and some adverts but no one agreed. Cara came up with the idea of having a competiton that involves facebook statuses this will tie in with the new film that came out in cinemas about Facebook. I thought that was fantastic. Lesson finished and i went home to go and write my script as i was presenting.

Planet Rock ( Music)

For this genre of radio show i analysed a radio station called "Planet Rock", i listened to this on Wedensday 22nd September at 22:29. This radio station has a specific chosen era like classic rock and roll. The target audience is 18+ because of the decades the type of music comes from and the younger audience would listen because any aspiring musican has role models from these decades. The listeners can txt in to the station to request something they want to be played live on air. This station doesnt do the top 40 charts simply because this wouldn't apply to their target audience because the station is based around rock not mainstream music or popular culture. On the website they do have the radio logo which is this ;
As you can see the image of the world emphasis the fact that the station is full of classic rock. They are only avalible on DAB radio and has a music channel. The station has advertisments like every other radio station part from the BBC because its funded by the TV licence, there are also lots of promoting about Festivals and Rock gigs and the presenter eeven encourages the listeners to buy tickets for some of them because in 'his opinion' they will be a blast. The timing inbetween songs is small they own use a 5 second jingle to put inbetween the songs so the presenter doesnt talk much because of this. The presenter plays 5 songs and then he talks for a minutes before the adverts start to roll. The presenters voice isnt mono toned, the pitch of his voice is varied especially when he gets excited about a band or song. The style of his presenting is very relaxed not to hyper just tolarable. For their jingles, they have used a strong deep male voice this shows that the station is aimed at male listeners. With their grey and caramel layout on their site it is clear that it's not trying to impress their listeners with jazzy colours that atrract. Its got a layed back feel with their easy listening music and slow paced presenters. The language isnt difficult to understand, only using simple English. The accent of the presenter is American which sounds good with the type of music being played. I have noticed that they dont speak over the long intro's of some songs which would have needed it and the adverts are just too cheessy for this style. The branding of Planet rock is Classic rock, so the listeners imagine that some of the presenters are in their late 30's and in some cases this is true but because of the language used it doesnt sound like adult contemporary.

Kerrang Radio (Music Show)

I listenend to Karrang Radio on 3rd November 2010 at 2:51pm. The target audience for this radio station is 16+ because of the type of music and style of presenting. The presenter is female, she uses informal language and her pace of speech is fast but you can pick up the words so you can understand. Even the News Presenter's pace is at the same speed. The presenter uses phrases and slang which young listeners will understand. The use of her illustrative language makes it enetertaining to listening to, she uses alot of catch phrases such as 'Black Friday' and 'Pure Bant' this slang is perfect for the target audience they are trying to hit. Her tone of voice isnt borning, slow or just bland. Her voice insteads just injects pure excitment leaving the listener feeling pumped up and feeling that they've got to listen to more or they'd lose out of whats happening. She hasn't got a accent just purely British, its a bit husky but from my point of view it sounds like years of heavy smoking and drinking. The music that is played on Karrang isnt mainstream pop muisc. Their specifiaclly more to do with bands/ artists that are in these genres; Electronica, Screamo, Rock, Soft Rock, Heavy Metal, Thrash, and indie. This is called a selection criteria and it appeals to a wide range of people because they might not like the UK  top 40 or music from other genres. Karrang radio is a public radio, you can listen on the Internet, DAB and on FM. As well as a radio station they have a booming magazine dedicated to rock music this where avid listeners can go and buy their magazines. The Karrang image is all about angry bands with lots of attitude this works well with the target audience their trying to appeal to. Their internet site is in black, grey with red. And their logo is in red with a barcode behind the font which is different from other logos i've seen. The presenters are conversational but the ratio is 85%.

Heart fm (Adult Contemporary)

You can listen to heart fm on the radio, DAB, internet, mobile and TV. I listened to the late night show with Simon Beale on the 1st November at 12:23 am. The music that they play can vary on different types of shows, they play the UK top 40, easy listening and music from all era's. This will apply to their target audience which is 35+. The branding of heart fm is very obvious with their name heart. On the website its all in red with the font in white to make it stand out more.On their logo, the A is shaped of a love heart on their internet tab it shows a red heart against white branding. This is to force the heart brand down listeners throats and viewers. In Oxford there is regular heart stands with a street crew trying to get more customers to listen in or get interactive with the show, this works well i find because its making the station more involved with their local listeners. With heart fm, they have a station for every region so it can be listenable where ever you in the UK, they get on average a week 7.5 million viewers tuning in.Heart is the biggest commericial radio and is a public service. The personality of heart radio is very upbeat, let the good times role and take a step back to relax. Their motto is 'More Music Variety' which immplies that their station will play anything from Stone Roses to Neyo. The ratio of speech to music is 95% just because of the type of show im listening but there is a thick load of jingles, stings and plenty of adverts to seperate the songs, this is typical of heart fm. The presenters use of language is farely relaxed for adult contemporary which i find works well as they use alot of illustrative language to give the listeners a picture in their minds. The breadth of vocabulary is at a good pace not slow or fast paced. This makes the target audience feel that their not being treated as a child.

Gold (Adult Contemporary)

For this genre of radio show i analysed a radio Station called Gold, I listened to it on their internet website. i listened on Wedensday 22nd September at 21:49. The show that i listened to is "Dean Martin's Gold Requests", the type of music that is being played is old 60's hits this ties in with the target audience of the show which is 30+ because the music is easy listening like back round music. On this particular show there is  audience interaction because of the show is a 60's request show so listeners ring up and ask to put certain music on from that era. Every show plays songs from all different types of decades so it isnt just from one decade give the listener more range of music from the past. This is commerical radio and has a lot of advertiments such as the link that plays the show has a tenor lady pads advert this relates to the older audience and these adverts are played in the breaks of songs. They broadcast the news every hour with the weather and sport making it informative. The presenters tone of voice was very smooth and has a 60:40 ratio, music being the biggest. The branding for Gold is they have their own jingles that the listener can recognise that its gold radio station their listening to when they tune in. On their internet site you can see that the layouts in gold this is to put acoss the point that it is 'Gold Radio'. There are images of artists from past and present artists to prove that they can cater to all audiences. They have links to Golds Playlists, presenters and schedule so that the listeners are always in the know how about the station which brings the listeners more into the making of the show. On the web page its clear that Vodaphone are their sponsers from this you can tell its not just a local radio. The vocal delivery is conversational instead of BBC radio 2 which is informative.  I went and listen to one of their day time show with David Andrews, I listened live at 1:49pm. The ratio of music to presenting has gone up to 90% just because at this time of day the radio is in the backround to listen to. There is a news presenter who speaks informally and her pace is quick but understandable and her tone of voice is in mono tone. Her accent is British and the sentance structure is set in a proffessional manner which makes it appropiate to the audience. The presenter didnt talk much which made the show boring because of the mix's and jingles are slightly annoying.
