Surge Radio (Student Radio)

Surge radio is a student radio station for University of Southampton and they have been running for 25 years as surge. They broadcast all year round on at 1287AM, DAB and internet. Giving people access to listen to it when away from college also giving the local community the chance to listen. I listened to this radio station on 1st November 2010. The music that is being played is the UK top 40 charts and other mainstream music inbetween the songs. There is lots of audience interactivity with their request txt in service with shout out as well. The presenter is constantly bringing up the stations name with the am frequency so the audience knows what their listening to. The target audience for this station is 16-25 because of the type of music and style of presenting and music that is being played. The music is very upbeat, playing the clubs latest big hits to get students ready for a night out also with music from the past to get people nastolgic. This is a public service. The ratio of speech is 85% because the show is on at the evening. Between songs theres a jingle to describe what different types of genres they play.
