This is University Glasgow's Student radio, it is called Subcity. Its a community radio, you can liten to it on FM, DAB and on the internet. This radio station is aimed at 16+, just because of the different styles of music they have different shows which specialise in different genres of music. This attracts all type of listeners as the presenters have full knowledge on what they are playing. I listened to this on Monday 1st Novemeber 2010 at 1:38pm.
The role of the presenter is DJ. The language of the presenter is simple with no use of slang so its not too studenty. She speaks fast in between the songs, only telling the listeners whats been on and whats coming up next with this type of show is appropiate as its only specialised in Electro and upcoming DJ's/Bands. There is a consistancy at how everytime she finished her presenting she is constantly saying the radio stations name and what time it is. This works well for people who are flicking through stations to know what their listening to also its sort of their on phrasing. The presenter has a really strong Scottish accent which blends in well with the show because its reginal. Tone of her voice is very easy listening, i could just put this on in the backround while doing my work. She doesnt however have illustrative language as she doesnt have content or a topic to discuss. I think it works well with the target audience as the radio station is specialist to music not just "Banter", on the webiste they say that their there for "Music lovers". I do find that i want her to have a bit more enthusiasm because it gets slightly boring. The music programming for student radio is usually recent music from all different types of genres or easy listening music during the day time. Whereas with Subcity theres genres for all types of audiences which i absoulty love. There isnt many student interaction with the shows which is a bit of a let down if there's one song that you really wanted to listen to you cant ask for them to play it. There also isnt a UK top 40 charts, this shows that the radio station is not mainstream unlike so many others. This is a public service. The ratio of speech to music is 90% which is really high but for their target audience it works well. Every show has its own personality to the genre of music which makes it more exciting for the listener. Their website is basic white with grey, it has some colour with the hyperlinks. The logo is in graffiti to emphasis the fact that its a student radio station aimed at students.
